I guess I should have clarified more about my last post…on Monday I was very ill and basically got rid of everything in my system.  I couldn’t eat anything.  On Tuesday, I was able to eat a few saltines.  Tuesday evening, I knew I needed nutrients to get my strength back, so I made a smoothie using a banana, frozen fruit and milk.  That upset my stomach again and led to a very rough night (the culprit was likely milk).  My system just couldn’t handle much at all.  On Wednesday, I decided to eat only the bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast I mentioned in my last post because I needed to start getting SOMETHING in my system and those things are very easily digested.  This “diet” is often recommended by doctors for patients recovering from gastro-intestinal problems.  Yes, it is very bland and does not contain many nutrients and it’s VERY different than what I typically eat, but it was literally all that my body could handle.  It allowed me to slowly re-build my system and my stomach until I could handle real foods, which I was able to do on Friday- YAY!

Saturday was really busy – I finally got my wedding album and also picked out some things for our new house.  My stomach behaved well (on normal foods), but I ran out of energy after a couple hours of shopping and had to take a nap!

I felt a little ‘off’ all day today and I started to wonder if it was a lack of exercise.  I haven’t worked out for over a week due to the stomach flu, which is very out of the norm for me.  I didn’t have a ton of energy, so I walked on the treadmill for a while, which made me feel a little better.  I start my second-to-last MBA class tomorrow evening, so I did a little reading for class and took it easy for most of the day.

At least I had a pretty view while I worked…this is the view from my favorite room in my parents’ house, the sun room.  We got 6.5” of snow on Friday and the sunroom gives a beautiful view of all the snow:

New Year, New Things January 8, 2009

Filed under: Reflections — Bridget @ 8:30 pm

Hope you are all having a good first full week of 2009!  My week has been great.  This is the first “real” week at my new job, and I really think I’m going to like it!  The people are nice, the work will keep me busy and things are different each day.  The hours are new for me, too.  Here they work 7 to 3:30 ( I used to work 8ish to 5 M-Th and 8 to 2 on Fridays).  I used to workout before work on most days, which meant I had to get up at 5:00am.  This week, I’ve been working right after work and loving it!  I have a lot more energy at that time of day and I think I’m getting a better workout in.

A lot of things are going to be new for me in 2009, but I think it’s going to be a great year.  I know some people don’t believe in resolutions because so many people break them, but I’m going to use this new year to set a few goals for myself.  Some of these have been in work for a while, but here are my goals for 2009:

  • Be more organized!  I’ve let things slip in the last few years and hate the feeling of not being organized in my life, in my house, and at work.  This will also include keeping my new house less cluttered.  I like to call this goal “getting my life together.”  It’s already off to a really good start.
  • Get stuff done– do things I need to do (clean the house, homework, etc.) before I do things I want to do (watch TV, read blogs and general internet time-wasting).
  • Make a better effort with social plans– sometimes I rely on others too much to invite me to do things.  This will be especially important since I don’t have a ton of friends here and will hopefully make new ones!
  • Don’t take things out on my husband.  He doesn’t deserve it, no matter how stressed out I am.

I’ve got a few other things in mind, but this is where I’m starting.

Even though this first week of 09 has been a good one, getting up to go to work each morning is taking a toll after my holiday break- I’m pooped!

Lay off me, I’m starving… October 2, 2008

Filed under: Reflections — Bridget @ 10:15 pm

I have been really really hungry lately and I just can’t seem to get full.  I would say this has been going on all week.  I’m eating pretty much the same as always and nothing in my life has drastically changed:

  • I’m not working out any more than usual (in fact, this week has been a little lighter).
  • It’s not the week before or the week of my monthly stuff.
  • I don’t think I have a tapeworm.
  • I’m not overly worried about something.
  • My workload is pretty typical.
  • I haven’t been overly bored or overly busy at work.

The only things I can come up with are that I have been a little busier in general with school and other stuff, but if anything this involves more sitting, so I don’t need extra fuel for that.  And I wouldn’t say I’m exactly exerting a lot of brain power during class, so it’s not that either… Anyways, this is really frustrating to me because I don’t like to be hungry!

Here are the only “reasons” I can come up with:

  • It’s getting colder and we probably have some instinct to “bulk up” to make it through the cold months.  I should dress warmer and get a little heater to put under my desk.
  • I am more tired than usual.  This probably has something to do with being out of town, drinking too much, and sleeping too little last weekend.  Also, when I have class, I don’t go to sleep until about 11 and still try to maintain my 5 am wake-up for working out.  I skipped the morning workout on Tuesday and this morning.  This is a little embarrassing, but this is actually what happened this morning: cell phone alarm went off at 5.  Husband is out of town, so cell phone was next to the bed instead of in the bathroom.  Got really confused.  Tried to turn off the actual alarm clock (which I haven’t set or used in over 9 months).  Turned on the light.  Figured out it was cell phone alarm.  Got up; dog stayed in bed.  Went into the bathroom, went potty, brushed teeth, put in contacts.  Came back into bedroom to get dressed.  Dog looked soooo cozy on the bed.  Laid down next to dog.  Spooned dog.  Thought about going back to sleep.  Set alarm for 6.  Turned light off.  Slept for another hour.  Still sleepy when I woke up…  I think I need to adjust my sleeping/working out schedule to get more zzzzz’s on most nights.  According to this article, sleep and hunger could be related.

I ate pretty normal today and tried to resist extra snacks because I know I didn’t need them.  I went over to a friend’s house for dinner and I was kind of full after a pretty big meal of bread, salad, and veggie pasta.  Then I came home and ate an ice cream sandwich while I watched the end of the VP debate…I think that almost did the trick.
